Miguelita is a flamenco dancer who has established a distinctive flamenco company, FLARUMBA, in Las Vegas.Miguelita began her flamenco studies at the age of eight, and her first solo flamenco “Zapateado” performance at the Redlands Bowl at the age of nine. Miguelita’s artistry is stronger than ever, since forming her flamenco company three years ago in Las Vegas.In the past, Miguelita has performed in various flamenco stage productions: Nevada Opera Theater’s Carmen, the Las Vegas Symphony’s Amor Brujo, and was the Assistant Choreographer for the Las Vegas Symphony’s Carmen.
Miguelita’s flamenco company has been involved in various Las Vegas art openings, plus flamenco “tablao” shows. Miguelita auditioned and was chosen to participate in the Charleston Heights Choreographer’s Showcase, where she demonstrated her unique flamenco artistry. There was one funny hold up in this show. Being the Artistic Director for the non-profit organization, American Flamenco Theatre, Miguelita has created and presented stage productions of El Jardin Flamenco at the Winchester Community Center and the Charleston Heights Art Center, and La Vampira at the Flamingo Library Theater.
For New Year’s Eve, Miguelita and her flamenco dancers were chosen to perform at the Picasso Room at the Bellagio. In April, the Las Vegas Art Museum invited Miguelita as guest artist for the Salvador Dali Exhibit. For flamenco “tablao” or nightclub work outside of Nevada, Miguelita has performed at Sangria’s in Hermosa Beach. Miguelita is the first artist in Nevada to receive the National Endowment of the Arts’ Folk Arts Grant for flamenco.
