An Introduction To Flarumba

Miguelita is a flamenco dancer who has established a distinctive flamenco company, FLARUMBA, in Las Vegas. FLARUMBA is a hybrid word to describe Miguelita’s unique style of flamenco music and dance. Created from two words, flamenco and rumba, it expresses Miguelita’s innovative flamenco syle. As Julia Osbourne of The Las Vegas Journal stated, “Performances that are as searing as they are sexy, with guitars and drums throbbing a constant, intoxicating rhythm.” Miguelita’s flamenco combines traditional flamenco with American style.Miguelita began her flamenco studies at the age of eight, and her first solo flamenco “Zapateado” performance at the Redlands Bowl at the age of nine. Miguelita’s artistry is stronger than ever, since forming her flamenco company three years ago in Las Vegas. In the past, Miguelita has performed in various flamenco stage productions: Nevada Opera Theater’s Carmen, the Las Vegas Symphony’s Amor Brujo, and was the Assistant Choreographer for the Las Vegas Symphony’s Carmen. Recruiting and utilizing local talent, Miguelita has created a reputable flamenco company that is accompanied by a truly talented flamenco guitarist, Don Juan (a.k.a. Joselito Serratore), who has accompanied such flamenco artists as Nana Lorca and Jose Greco. Miguelita’s flamenco company has been involved in various Las Vegas art openings, plus flamenco “tablao” shows. Miguelita auditioned and was chosen to participate in the Charleston Heights Choreographer’s Showcase, where she demonstrated her unique flamenco artistry. Being the Artistic Director for the non-profit organization, American Flamenco Theatre, Miguelita has created and presented stage productions of El Jardin Flamenco at the Winchester Community Center and the Charleston Heights Art Center, and La Vampira at the Flamingo Library Theater. For New Year’s Eve, Miguelita and her flamenco dancers were chosen to perform at the Picasso Room at the Bellagio.
